E3 2010: Sony Conference Wrap-Up

Sony was the third of the 'Big Three' to give their E3 press conference, and it didn't fail to disappoint. Starting out with an examination and discussion of 3D gaming, Sony launched into it with an extended gameplay demo of the new Killzone 3, which is slated for a February 2011 release date.

Then we saw exhibitions of PlayStation Move and its various applications, including some gameplay from a fantasy RPG called Sorcery and its integration into the recently released Tiger Woods PGA Tour 11. Then, a new game was introduced called Heroes on the Move. (Trailer) It features 6 Sony-exclusive characters in a Super Smash Bros-like title. The characters are Jak and Daxter (from the Jak & Daxter series), Ratchet and Clank (from the Ratchet & Clank series), and Sly and Bentley (from the Sly Cooper series).

After some more video of PlayStation Move, it was announced that the peripheral would be released on September 19th, 2010 in the US and the controller would only cost $49.99 MSRP. For $99.99, you'll be able to buy a bundle with a PlayStation Eye camera and some software called Sports Championship, and those without a PlayStation 3 will be able to get everything in one bundle for $399.99. First-party Move titles will be released at $39.99 MSRP.

Sony then showed a trailer for the newest God of War game on the PSP; God of War: Ghost of Sparta. Then, after some video of the new PSP ad campaign, we got a closer look at the gameplay of LittleBigPlanet 2.

Then there was a some more footage from Medal of Honor, but, more importantly, it was announced that the PS3 version of the new Medal of Honor will come with an upscaled HD version of Medal of Honor: Frontline.

Then the lights went out. The voice of GLaDOS echoed over the speakers as Gabe Newell of Valve walked out on stage. What followed was a trailer for Portal 2, which will be coming to PS3 in 2011 along with many Steam-specific features, making the PS3 the console of choice for Portal 2. Following a trailer for the upcoming MMORPG, Final Fantasy XIV, we were treated to yet another trailer for Assassin's Creed: Brotherhood and some gameplay from Dead Space 2.

They started wrapping up the conference with a trailer for the long awaited and frequently postponed Gran Turismo 5, which will finally be coming out on November 2nd, 2010, and a first look at inFAMOUS 2, the sequel to the electrifying 2009 hit.

The final thing shown was teaser for a new Twisted Metal game on the PS3, followed by some gameplay footage of team deathmatch mode and 'nuke' mode.

All in all, an excellent presentation from Sony.
